Choose your Tennessee health plan type

Do you want a plan with a co-oay for doctor visits, along with a deductible and coinsurance for other types of services or do you want a health insurance plan with a deductible and coinsurance for all types of services ?

Choose your annual deductible

Be careful here.  It is true that the larger the deductible, the lower the premium for the same health insurance plan.  But, if you choose a $2,500 deductible, do you have that much in an emergency fund in case you need to use it ?  Choose a deductible to allow the premium to fit your budget, but at the same time, remember, you have to pay it.

Choose your coinsurance percentage

This could be in the form of a 100% plan; 90/10; 80/20; 70/30; 60/40; or 50/50.  Usually, the more of the risk you take, the lower the premium.

Review the list of providers in your area of TN

There are many health provider networks and some are very limited.  Make sure you are satisfied with the list of hospitals, doctors, etc., where you will receive the most benefits from your health insurance policy.

If you are currently shopping for health insurance and comparing prices, with the intention of replacing your current policy, please make sure that all benefits, deductibles, co-payments, lifetime maximums and limitations are the same.  Don't discontinue your current health insurance policy until your new policy has been issued and is in full benefit.
